There are several key rules that must be followed before even getting on the horse:
It is vital to check your tack before you start.
*Reins: run your hands along both sets of reins checking for wear and fraying.
*Stirrup Leathers: Check that the stitching at the top of the leather is in good condition and that there is no wear where it loops through the iron.
*Girth: Check that the girth is secure, not too loose. This is to prevent the saddle from slipping.
*Tack : Check that all of the tack is correctly fitted and in reasonable condition.
