Argentina 2010

In January, a select group of star (effort) polo players from St. Andrews headed to La Mariposa for 10 days of Argentine sun, mosquitoes, and polo.

Every day consisted of stick and ball in the morning, giving Gilly and Thom time to fight the hangovers, several hours in the pool, and then chukkas in the afternoon. Everyone improved significantly, with James, dubbed "Jamie Baby" by Michael, winning Most Improved Player. The fantastic experience reached beyond the polo, as we feasted on fantastic food, attended cultural activities, and learned everything we never needed to know about each other. Some of us even got serenaded by underage grooms, while others learned a little too much about the police in the town 25 de Mayo. The ongoing debate regarding whether Fernet tastes like mouthwash or fabulous loveliness has yet to be decided, but it has been established that Ed's grunting gets worse when he loses, and when in doubt, "stick up". Safe to say that dressing gowns at meals, Pato, and Gayalleys will be missed by all. Oh, and RIP Jack"s "Italian nose".

But on a more serious note, thanks to Mariano, Gaston, and all at La Mariposa for making it an incredible 10 days of polo. Cat Steven's "Father and Son" will never sound quite as good now that we have all heard the better version. Also, thanks to Gilly and Thom for organising, and everyone who went along to make it such a successful trip. If you didn't go this year, next year is a must. We hope to see you all there. Besos.
